The weather in the Dominican Republic is consistent year-round. They have about 300+ party sunny days a year. You may experience a brief shower at sunrise or later in the afternoon, but typically they only last 5 minutes. May-June are typically the wettest months with rain also more likely in October and November. August and September will be the hotter months with temperatures reaching 90-94F. December-April will be cooler with lows in the mid-60's and highs in the low 80's. The water temperature averages 80-82F! Although the Dominican has been hit by hurricanes, it is rare. In the past 80 years, they have only experienced 11 hurricanes.
You will find nightly entertainment at most of the all-inclusive properties. Off-site there are few nightclubs. There are some bars in the shopping center and there are four casinos in the area.
If you are looking for activities, there are a good variety of golf courses. If you prefer the water sports, try snorkeling at the coral reef, scuba diving by a shipwreck, deep sea fishing, windsurfing, glass-bottom boats or parasailing. Couples may want to take a horseback ride along the beach. For those looking for more adventure, there are ATV tours and jeep safaris.
For those looking for a unique day trip, travel to Altos de Chevon in La Romana. It will be about a two-hour drive. Altos de Chavon is a re-created 15th century Italian-Spanish village set alongside the Chavon River. It is an artist's village with cobblestone streets, quaint architecture, charming shops, fine restaurants, bars, workshops, an amphitheater and a church.
